Mary Mac's Tea Room is an Atlanta legend, having been on the scene for 70 years plus. You will find it in Midtown on Ponce de Leon Ave. It's in an old building with pipes hanging from the ceiling. The walls are adorned with pictures of all the famous people that have eaten there: politicians and movie stars alike. Their menu is southern food. You know, fried chicken and collard greens. THAT kind of food.
The waitress doesn't take your order. YOU fill out a form that is on your table and she picks it up. This place is full of personality. If you want a dose of Atlanta culture, you must visit this legendary landmark.
Of course, you can drive there, especially if you want to drive around the area. Just put 224 Ponce de Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, Ga 30308 into your GPS and you will arrive there. You can also Uber down there (which is what I have done) or, you can drive to the closest Marta station and park for free and board Marta. Get off at the North Ave station and it's about a 5 to 10 minute walk to the restaurant. After you eat, you might want to walk down Myrtle Street and see all the beautiful old homes. You will dead end at Piedmont Park and you could walk around the park. Then, walk back up to the Marta station and go back.
